Subsidence Claims

Managing a Subsidence Claim

What to Expect

The first priority in any subsidence claim is to determine whether the building is still moving, in which direction, and at what rate. This monitoring process can take up to a year to complete.

A thorough and carefully managed investigation is essential to accurately diagnose the underlying cause of the movement. Only with a clear understanding of the problem can effective steps be taken to address it.

Once the diagnosis is complete, appropriate mitigation or stabilisation methods can be identified and carried out before moving on to full repair and reinstatement of the property.

At every stage, we take an active role in ensuring all necessary measures are accounted for and properly executed, so your property is restored completely and correctly.

Recognising the Signs of Subsidence

If sudden cracks appear in your property measuring more than 3mm in width, running diagonally and wider at the top than the bottom, this may indicate subsidence.

These cracks often emerge from the corners of doors or windows and can be visible both internally and externally. You might also notice doors and windows sticking or becoming difficult to open or close fully.

In homes with extensions, cracks frequently appear where the extension joins the original building — again, typically wider at the top. Additionally, signs of subsidence may include dropped flooring and gaps forming between the skirting boards and the floor surface.

Each of these symptoms is commonly associated with structural movement and should be investigated by a qualified professional.

Loss Assessor

Or Loss Adjusters?

While both Loss Assessors and Loss Adjusters are involved in insurance claims, they have fundamentally different roles.

A Loss Adjuster is appointed and paid by the insurance company who will investigate the cause of the incident, the value of the loss or damage and whether you’ve met the T&C’s of your insurance policy.

We will gather evidence, compile and present your claim as well as negotiate with the Loss Adjustor on your behalf to get you the best settlement. Your Loss Assessor (US) works exclusively for the policyholder (YOU), advocating for your best interests.
